Babblewatch Ends

who cares

Babble, nobody cares anymore but I sort of feel like I need to finish out this storyline, has returned after being offline for over half a month. Apparently now on a WordPress platform, the site went live with a bunch of crap still not working (author pages display posts from the wrong contributors).

Babble overlords have still not satisfactorily explained why they needed to be offline, though writers are hearing through the grapevine they will be paid their April earnings “next week”. One source who wishes to remain anonymous claims employees are basically bound by contract to remain publicly silent on what’s happening at Babble, so we may never know wtf is really going on over there.

But does anyone really care anymore at this point? Thought so. This may as well just be an open post.

Update/correction: DadCamp says Babble has been on WordPress for at least 2 years. So now I have no idea wtf they’ve been doing all this time.

Babblewatch Continues, Bloggers Start Asking Questions

babblewatch

As Babble.com marks its ninth day being offline bloggers finally seem to be asking some questions. One tweeted “Is Babble just dead? Being revamped? I am so confused” with another blogger responding that the situation is “really weird” and “the management was getting really secretive & dodgy”.

The exchange included this tantalizing tidbit:

 babblewatch2

This information was apparently obtained “in a closed FB group for bloggers”. Babble continues to claim it is merely a “server outage” via their twitter account, while the Babble facebook has not been updated since April 30th. Babble/Disney Interactive’s Catherine Connors has said only “I so, so wish that I could say more, but it’s not up to me. I am very sorry for that”.

With Mother’s Day on Sunday it’s baffling that such a huge mommy-centric site should continue to be offline with no real explanation or updates about the status of the alleged “outage”. I hope they have at least kept their contributors and staff in the loop with the truth.

Babblewatch continues.

The “Iris Awards” Provides New Way For Bloggers To Circle Jerk

This year’s Mom 2.0 Summit introduced the “Iris Awards“. According to their website:

In Greek Mythology, Iris is the messenger of the gods who linked all humanity with the heavens. She travels with the speed of wind from one end of the world to the other, and into the depths of the sea and the underworld. She is a parent and is associated with communication, messages, and new endeavors.

Because equating mommy bloggers with a Greek goddess isn’t self-important or anything. Oddly, they forgot to mention Iris also “links the gods to humanity” because you know that’s how they see themselves.

Anyway, the nominees were the usual Popular Girls: Finslippy, Mom101, Dooce, Pioneer Woman, The Blogess, etc. There were categories for important award deserving things like “Best Sponsored Content Campaign”, “Best Brand Content Campaign”, and “Game Changer”.

After the awards were handed out to the same prom queens who always win the awards at these things, the self-a-bration continued with video recaps for youtube.

Soooo yeah.Yet another pointless ‘celebration of us’ festival with meaningless self-voted awards carried out by the most group fappingest blogging niche on the internet.

Babble.com – In Trouble, Or Just A Server Crash?

your site is broke

Babble.com has been offline for quite a while now. Other than claiming a “server outage” as the cause, they have been silent on twitter about the problem.

Babble was evidently un-partnered by Disney in early March, but rumors of writer payment issues have been circulating since December. Is this the first sign of possible problems? Or is it just a 48 hour server outage?

Update: Minutes after this post went live babble.com came back online with a message that they are “busy adding some exciting new features to the site” and to “please check back later”.

“American Blogger” Being Released Tomorrow

Casey Wiegand has announced that her husband’s stunning cinematography project “American Blogger”, also known as “The Movie About The Wiegand’s Friends”, will now be released tomorrow instead of in June.

Originally the plan for the film was that Chris would release the film in June on iTunes only…Because the release of the trailer didn’t go anything like what we expected, Chris has decided to release the movie on Wednesday via a different source.

Chris Wiegand is also issuing a disclaimer with the movie, which is basically a masterpiece of attempted backpedaling:

The way in which these women tell their stories with authenticity does represent the bravery and passion of American Bloggers, but please know: not all categories of American Bloggers are represented in this film. There are still many more stories to be told.

The disclaimer also has Chris saying “This film is not meant to validate blogging as a career”. This is basically the opposite of what he said to Daily Dot just two weeks ago, when he told an interviewer “I want to validate these bloggers”.

So…viewing party in my basement tomorrow, hams?

Roundup: Here’s Some Things That Don’t Really Require A Full Post

Young House Love had their baby boy Theodore last Wednesday. Of course with their posting lag time, that could mean he came out back in March.

Jen Loves Kev are evidently going to start fostering kids with the intent of adopting some.

Messica of What I Wore has started complaining about gaining 15 pounds in the past 5 months of pregnancy. I may be wrong, but isn’t that what’s supposed to happen?

The site inspired by The Great XOJane exodus of 2014 is apparently launching today, calling itself The Flounce. Don’t feel obligated to check it out – it’s basically just XOJane, but less user friendly.
