Gawker Cans Our Good Friend Gabrie Snyder, Cementing Our Hatred

I was busy starting my Monday night drunk party,  so I didn’t check my email until now, but apparently Gawker is letting GOMIBLOG’s favorite person (second to Matt Cherette) Gabriel Snyder go.

For reasons which I’m not too clear on, but I’m sure Nick Denton will explain momentarily, I am being replaced as editor-in-chief of Gawker.

Blah uhbuh more here, but that sort of sucks. Now we are down to only Lawson and Blakeley to rag on.

Team Gabriel shirts will be available soon!

Jakob Lodwick Perplexed By Life's Brutal Mysteries

Jake Lodwick, man who killed the radio star, comes off as either Einstein or Simon Lynch depending on what you happen to overhear.

For instance, Jake seems rather confused by his own body’s natural functions:

I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, like an addiction. I just crave it, and I don’t drink soda or coffee … just water, flowing through my system, all day, every day. Also when I get excited (like, say, when I’m focused on work), my need to pee goes up another 50 to 100%; I have no idea why. Sooo…. the answer is, because I’m pee-crazy.

(this post is only for people in the Tumblr office, where I’m working right now. everyone else can skip it)

Drinking a lot of water makes you pee a lot. I don’t understand it either! Thankfully the tumblr team is helping increase Jake’s cognitive skills with simple games designed to improve his reasoning. His favorite game so far? “What’s In The Supply Closet”:

Lodwick: Oh my god!
Lodwick: There’s so many supplies in here!!
Marco: In the supply closet?

Yes, the Algernon of the Internets is making progress. Soon, he will be on to higher learning before his inevitable descent back into ignorance. Or he will become the Lawnmower Man. I’m not sure which scenario is more depressing.

Scoble Doesn't Need To Network With Prols

Back thee off, peasants! Lord Scobleizer will network with thee not!

let’s be honest, the networking there WAS better because of the amount of money represented in the room. I met many many CEOs that I would never have been able to meet in any other context. And, sorry, for my business networking with rich people is far better than networking with other economic groups. That is elitist but it also is true. I can network with the poor in the street, or by volunteering my time at the Food Bank that I do from time to time, I don’t need an event for that.

Forsooth! Lest thy unwashed unworthies getteth the wrong idea, Lord Scobelizer shall not actually network with the regular scobos in the street. Nay! He shall be too busy making proclamations of wisdom and interfacing with thy wealthy superiors.

Back to thy work, knaves!

Elitist Sarah Lacy Claims TED Is Too Elitist

Sarah Lacy, world culture lover and socioeconomics expert, says the TED con (now held in Long Beach) has just gotten too elitist.

Apparently what used to be a fun, restricted event where you could “hang out with Al Gore and Meg Ryan at the same dinner” is now a snotty little gathering of people who think they are too good to include The Sarah Lacy in the fun. In what she claims is her “last rant on TED“:

Now when the day’s sessions are done there’s a hierarchy of parties throughout the LA-area with strict lists and security. Cliques within cliques, if you will. One friend I spoke with yesterday told me it was so bad last year he couldn’t even hang out with his friends much of the time. Because that’s what you want when you’ve paid $6,000 to attend an event—to be told your friends are still better than you.

Obviously the reason Sarah isn’t begged to attend and share her vast knowledge of Paul Carr’s shoes is not because she knows all willy about tech – it’s because she dared to speak out about TED a few years ago:

Truth be told, if I had $6,000 that my mortgage or a worthy charity didn’t need and was important enough to be courted by the organizers, I’d probably be a TED-head too. But a few years ago, I’d heard so many ugly stories about treatment of the people who aren’t quite-important-enough that I finally had to call the fawned-over conference out in one of my highest-read BusinessWeek columns ever, all but guaranteeing I’ll never be let in its hallowed doors.

All of this arm waving and hair pulling comes off as the blog equivalent of standing outside the doors screaming “WHATEVAH! I don’t want to be at your snotty boring party anyway!” You hear that, TED?  It doesn’t matter to Sarah. She’s too good for your stupid conference! She’s too busy changing the face of technology, entertainment, and design. Suck it!

This Is How You Post Inane Conversations on the Internet, Julia Allison

I have no idea why I found this so funny, but Choire is funny and awesome, so we will use this as a teaching moment.

Lunch Time At The Office

David Cho: Do you want me to bring you a sandwich?
Choire Sicha: OMG WHAT! FROM WHERE! ARE YOU COMING OVER? Yays!
David: I just saw an email that you were hungry, so I was fake offering.
Choire: Oh. I’m so hungry.
David: Oops. Want me to order something on the corp card?
Choire: Balk went out and got himself a DUNKIN DONUTS BAGEL STICK.
David: LOL.
Choire: Related: he is going to die in like 8 years.

There, Julia. Never say that no one ever taught you nuthin’.

Emily Brill Flounces Off Internets v2.0

Once again Hamily has deleted an internet year of her life.

A quick visit to Emily Brill’s twitter shows she has 0 tweets now posted on her twitter. It is not clear what would cause her to take such a drastic measure – or why she wouldn’t just delete her twitter account instead.

Will Hamily ever stop hurting us? Will she ever just create an online home where the unwashed catladies can go for our news of the Ham, without fear of her leaving again? And why did she delete her tweets this time?
