Passionfruit Starts Charging, Bloggers Freak Out

Passionfruit, that service that seemed to be mostly known for its blog button swapping service, decided to start charging $9 a month to use their blog ad selling platform. This caused the used-to-free-everything bloggers of the world to commence freaking out, while Passionfruit owner Jason flip flopped between saying he would be sorry to lose users and basically telling complainers to suck it up because Passionfruit is the most awesome and cheapest ad selling platform around.

Tweets such as “Soo @passionfruitads is no longer free? Not cool, dude. I’ll be looking for a new service” and “sorry to hear about your new pricing… too rich for my little blog’s blood! Thanks for caring about the little guy!” from tiny hobby bloggers contrasted with In Defense Of Passionfruit blog posts from bigger bloggers, some announcing that they don’t care because they will no longer be offering free swap ads anyway:

I will no longer be offering swap ads. I have found that these haven’t benefitted me much, or at all really. Most of the blogs that want to swap have around 100 followers. If I have 800 followers, it just isn’t a fair trade. You’d be getting more from me by purchasing an ad spot anyways.

It will be interesting to see if people actually migrate. The majority don’t seem to gaf that he’s charging, probably because Jason The Flirtbot CEO has spent the last year texting winkies at the iphone of every giggling blogger who mentions his service. And a lot of people are not happy when you start charging for something that’s been free, no matter what “servers are expensive” sob story you give them.

Honestly this whole kerfluffle will probably wind up being just like all the I’M LEAVING FACEBOOK floods every time they change something – a lot of pissing and moaning and dramatic flouncing, and in three months they’re back because that’s where everyone else is.

“Handbasket” Says [CSA material] Is Not Assault

Mrs. Handbasket, her husband is not a bad guy, has spent a year and a half explaining why people who partake of CSA are not really criminals. Now she’s putting Toronto police on blast for saying such images are no different than r**e:

This is all kinds of silly.

If we prosecuted only those people who looked at images of child r**e, my husband would be home with me now. If this detective means that a photo of a naked child is the same as child r**e, he doesn’t understand what r**e is.

Telling us to remember that “not all CSA includes images of small children and not all CSA images are of crime scenes”, she wants us all to “not cheapen the horrifying abuse endured by some of these children by equating the photo with the horrifying abuse”.

Toronto police want to change the terminology used, saying “[t]he term ‘p**nography’ indicates consent”. Mrs. Handbasket on the other hand has said in the past that “[l]ooking at CP, searching for it, enjoying it does not mean the guy is a p*dophile”.

Dooce Still Gushing Over Boyfriend, Internet Still Failing To Care

Today in slow news days Heather Armstrong, of the Hangin’ Tuff Armstrongs, visited the east coast over the weekend. After months of lame hints and instagram crushbarfing, she finally acknowledged on her blog that she took a “non-work related plane trip involving (you guessed it) this guy” – effectively putting to rest any remaining speculation that Matt Tuff is not her manpiece.

“The Cluttered Wife” Says Abortion Is Not About Women’s Rights

The Cluttered Wife, certainly looks old enough to pronounce on what constitutes feminism, is pregnant. As a pregnant married woman, this gives her the right to give you “women’s rights” ladies a big ole truth bomb:

Sorry that I am not sorry, but abortion has absolutely nothing to do with “women’s rights”. It is not like gaining the right to vote. This is about ending a LIFE. The life of a child that has not yet been born. We need to stop using terms such as “fetus” to dehumanize these babies. Call me conservative if you wish, but the fact is that there is life in each of these children that a women now think they have the “choice” to end or to continue.

Look, I think it’s fine if anyone wants to be pro-life or whatever, but I really don’t think dragging feminism or women’s rights tenets into an “abortion is murder” debate is helpful. Feel abortion is wrong, by all means, be God’s guest, don’t have one if you think they are so evil; but if you start tugging at the thread of what women’s rights should include in order to force other women to adhere to your beliefs, guess who decides when the thread pulling stops? Men in government. The same men women already fought against for 200 years just to get the meager rights we currently have.

Maybe just sit this one out until you take a couple of women’s studies classes, sweetie.

“The Next Martha” Will Tell You How To Treat Bloggers

Bloggers are ordering their new moo cards and dusting off their sense of entitlement in preparation for the Blogher 2013 conference. In between tweets whining about google reader and how omg summer is so hot, hundreds of middle class women are emailing any company they can think of begging for a sponsorship while others assert their expertiness by posting blog conference how-tos.

“The Next Martha” has graciously provided the Chicago Sheraton with just such a how-to guide, full of handy tips on how to treat the blogeratti:

What should I expect from bloggers?
You should expect from them as you would any other customer unless you piss them off. Then? Expect your social media to BLOW UP LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE…

Why should I care about these bloggers?
…If you just take a moment to talk to them you might find yourself inspired, in awe, laughing, and better just for meeting them…

Going on to tell the hotel that this may be the only vacation the mommies get, they are instructed to provide “the same service that you would of any customer. Again, if you don’t? You’ll pay social medially.”  In case she hadn’t made it clear that if their needs were not met the attendees would destroy them online, she went on: “Don’t water down the coffee you serve us. Don’t. We’ll hunt you down and kill you with hashtags.”

Her fangirls immediately began tweeting a link to the page at the Chicago Sheraton, presumably to give them a little taste of what they would have to #dealwith from these women if they didn’t put on their #bloggerisalwaysright faces. I kind of don’t get the point of that post other than as a way to repeatedly threaten the hotel with twitbombing if the bloggers weren’t treated like a pack of breastfeeding, apple product sporting Jolie-Pitts. Is this who bloggers think they are now?

“Blog Advice” Giveaway Will Let You Ask Nobodies How To Be A Successful Blogger

Erin of Two Thirds Hazel, has “throw on a tutu” in her “about me”, wants to do a giveaway like every other blogger on earth. But since she is a bold pioneering type, she decided to do a different kind of giveaway:

I rounded up a group of ladies who have been around the ballpark a time or two when it comes to blogging in order to put this one of a kind giveaway together. We all have some tips, tricks, advice, and guidance that we’d love to shole out in order to help you grow into the best blogger you can be. Whether this be through a Skype session, a back and forth email exchange, a blog critique, a Q&A session, a phone call, a personal jet to pick you up for a private meeting, etc – we’re covering all the bases.

And who are these super successful internet superstars? First on the list is Erin herself, because there’s no point in doing a giveaway if you can’t sneak in some self-promotion. Other ‘”big gun” bloggers’ include Raven (man and weight loss expert), and  Mama Laughlin (I guess she lost some weight and is famous now).

So…basically a bunch of bloggers maybe 20 people have heard of are going to let you win the privilege of their advice on how to make your blog a Big Deal On The Internet. Which honestly seems a little like asking Amanda Bynes for tips on how to be coherent on twitter. But hey, if it makes them feel important more power to them.

Mckmama Will Return To Blogging By End Of Summer

Less than a year after announcing she was closing her blog Mckmama, pill shiller, has now announced that she will announce a new blog soon.

A new internet venture is unsurprising to everyone who watched her writhe as her domain was cruelly confiscated last year by The Man, and speculation has begun on whether this will be another personal-for-pay blog or something connected to shilling the supplements she once claimed could help special needs kids.
