Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk Jessica Quirk, the brain trust behind that What I Wore blog, has yet again shut down her comments. She has turned them off at least once in the past, instituting a “Code of Comments” (basically you’re only allowed to say nice things from now on thanks!) when she turned them back on. Now Messica has once again decided your comments aren’t worth the trouble to moderate: Yes, Messica and her intern are just too busy with the super successful full time blog to sit around moderating your mean comments. From now on you should contact her through twitter or facebook! When informed that it’s inconvenient to come to facebook to comment on an outfit, Messica replied “I prefer to put a face to a name with the comments and connect more one on one!” Translation: take that anonymous meanies! Let’s see you comment now, bidges! Whatever. Frankly I think she’s better off not allowing comments, since it’s not like they added anything to her blog. There wasn’t any actual discussion or interesting interaction, just a series of fawning gurgles from her fangirls and people commenting just so they could include a link back to their own blog. And to repeat the only thing I have left to say about Messica at this point: why doesn’t she just fold What I Wore into her stupid That’s Quirky! site already and just go full lifestyle blogger, instead of clinging (halfheartedly) to this “fashion blogger” crap? I really don’t understand why she’s dragging this out.
Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk Jessica Quirk, full time blogger, has joined the ranks of Julia Allison and Gala Darling by finding herself an intern. The oh-so-busy Messica introduced her new lackey today by letting her do a guest post: With Thanksgiving break just around the corner, I’ve invited my intern Sheri to write a guest post on what she’ll be wearing home for the holidays. Her intern, Sheri, comes on the scene after apparently working for Messica for the past month. Evidently she’s a journo student at Indiana University and hails from Edina, Minnesota, so you know she’s truly tapped in to the pulse of fashion writing. Is Messica REALLY so overworked that she requires an intern? This is a woman whose workday consists of putting on clothes, posting pictures of herself in clothes, and supposedly 5 hours of email. Are these activities so time consuming and tiring that she requires additional help? What is the deal with bloggers needing interns anyway? If they just need someone to come in and offer additional content why not just say “My blog is getting stale and I’m bringing in new blood to help mix things up”? Or if your boyfriend/husband is tired of taking your pics why not just say “My boyfriend/husband is tired of taking my pics so I’ve found someone new to hold the camera while I pose”? Why call them an “intern” and imply that your blog is such a burden that you require a servant to help with your tasks? The whole “blogger intern” trend smacks of self-importance and laziness.
Jessica Quirk, packing expert, is back from Barcelona. She spent today editing her photos, tossing Gala Darling’s twitter salad, and continuing to beg someone to help her with her tumblr. True to her claims that she likes to look like everyone else Messica wore this traditional Spanish interpretation of a “Little House On The Prairie” dress that allowed her to mesh seamlessly with the Spanish citizenry. And of course, stay tuned to her blog where
Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk Jessica Continues to brag about how awesome she does vacation dressing. Supposedly this getup, consisting of free clothes and a sweater that still smelled of days old campfire, garnered her a “handful of compliments” while she walked around town minding her business. Not everyone had a compliment for Messy Jessi. Reader Erin had some thoughts about her tacky “native american” looking shoulder sack: Please reconsider the use and wearing of “Native American” patterns such as the one on your bag. Although I know they’ve been popping up on the runway quite a bit, the patterns are loaded with negative historical context in the US, and are part of a greater commercialization of Indigenous culture (see: Atlanta Braves, Jeep Grand Cherokee). Oh really? Well Messica wants you to stfu because she’s allowed ok? I have my own feelings on how American Indigenous cultures have been exploited, but that’s not something I want to go into great depth with in this blog. Did you know that I’m 1/16th Native American? Um, ok Jessica. What next, you’re also 1/1093842785787587238th descendant of Ghengis Khan and you will call something “Oriental Style” if you want to? You “have a black friend” so you will wear a tribal pattern from Modcloth if you want? You’re part Irish so you can get drunk and sing “Danny Boy” because it’s just your genetics? I wasn’t aware we are now allowed to do certain things based on our genetic makeup. That totally sounds like the liberal, hippie, equality Messica of two years ago.
Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk I….I….I…WHAT THE **** This was the only dress I packed for our nine days of vacation. I wore it for a fancy dinner out in Jackson Hole as well as for our Friday night out in Boulder. I loved the personal style vibe in Colorado and especially in college towns like Ft. Collins and Boulder. Everyone looks fresh and healthy, you don’t see a lot of makeup or done up hairdos and there’s an ease and casual nature to everyone’s clothes. But there’s still style. It’s sort of earthy and athletic and sometimes I felt a little Nirvana early 90s-ish. Can you feel how I took that on in this get up? I…yeah, discuss this among yourselves, I just cannot. I cannot.
Fashion Blogging Jessica Quirk Jessica Quirk, yeah her again, recently returned from an exotic vacation in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, who knows where else. First order of business: another sponsored post for JC Penney. I chose the Sample Gates on the West side of campus as my hometown landmark. And with my alma mater and a crisp fall morning in mind, I wanted to go with a vintage collage student look. Also, I have a new backpack. (I’m obsessed!!!) Her sponsor must be so proud. I’m not sure what a “vintage collage student” is, but it sounds pretty important and smart. Then she reminded us that she OMG LOVES Bloomtucky: This post is timely for me especially because it was this week last year that Adam and I packed up our Brooklyn apartment and drove 12+ hours to settle down in Indiana. I feel like it was yesterday! What a wonderful, wonderful year! Yes it’s certainly been the most outstanding year of her life. Progressively more blah outfits, the publication of her style expert book, moving into a white walled apartment, growing out her hair, and “frequently” visiting NYC. Her blog That’s Quirky is certainly taking off as well. Yes, it’s been a crazy, winning year for our Messica. What successes will the next year bring for Our Lady of Frump? Perhaps more sponsors?
Jessica Quirk of What I Wore, not invited to be part of the tumblr fashion week coverage, has some advice for people invited to be part of the tumblr fashion week coverage: “I always post the very best coverage I can, as quickly as possible,” she says. “I tweet up a storm before and during the show, and always send a follow-up thank you. When the next season rolls around, I let the PR folks handling the shows know I will be in New York, and if they have the space, I’d be very grateful to attend again. Great relationships are everything!” Messica stressing how important great relationships are is like me telling people how important it is to be nice to people on the internets. Such advice from the woman who routinely raises the bortch flag on the S.S. What I Want is so ridiculous I really don’t know what else I can add about it. Maybe I should just point out that she was not named as part of the tumblr group this season, and for months has had one small nothing ad on her “over a million pageviews a month” blog. Clearly she’s great at building and keeping relationships on her blog when there isn’t some fashion week stuff to lure sponsors with. What’s more amusing than Mrs. I Blog For Me telling bloggers to be grateful while begging for show invites? A woman legendary for posting next to nothing during her trips to New York, fashion week time or otherwise, telling people she posts “the very best coverage” as “quickly as possible”. Maybe now with expectations so high – her book is out, and she has to prove she doesn’t need tumblr’s backing – she will finally raise the bar a bit and start doing actual coverage.

Jessica Quirk Will Appropriate Your Culture
Here’s a couple blog posts to educate yourself and others about this important issue:http://nativeappropriations.bl... and http://nativeappropriations.bl….
Not everyone with Native American heritage is going to feel the same way about how clothing, accessories and jewelry are made more main stream. I’m not trying to make a political statement by wearing it (or any of my other clothing that uses Native American motifs)… I just think they’re beautiful!
